Sustainability

Our lands may be raw and remote, but we sustain them with hands-on care.

To show our commitment we have gotten CSWA Sustainability certificates for both the winery and vineyards

BORN OF NECESSITY

Given our remote location, sustainability is not optional, it’s critical. Sustainability refers to the capacity to cultivate, thrive and repeat without depleting our precious natural resources. We diligently apply this timeless philosophy to our farming practices to support healthy soils, low yields, and constant attention in growing the finest estate-grown wine grapes possible for generations to come.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

A commitment to sustainability extends to every detail of the approach at Brassfield Estate.

BOTTLING

BOTTLING
  • We use lighter-weight bottles (around 450 grams) to significantly reduce shipping weights.
  • Our labels are made from eco-friendly paper

VINEYARD

We utilize an undervine cultivator on the valley floor, eliminating the need for herbicides in those vineyard blocks.

  • Bird and bat houses have been installed around the property to support and supplement their habitats.
  • Tule Sensors are in place to measure evapotranspiration (ET), which tells us the actual water usage of our vines, allowing us to adjust irrigation precisely.
  • CropX soil moisture probes are installed to measure moisture at different depths in the soil. This informs us how deeply our irrigation and rainfall are penetrating and how much water is available to our vines.
  • Overall less pest and disease location due to our remote location

WINERY

BOTTLING
  • We incorporated recycled materials from another building into our construction.
  • On-site warehousing helps us reduce shipping demands.
  • We use top-of-the-line equipment to maximize efficiency and conserve water.

WILDLIFE PRESERVE & ANCIENT OAKS

We take stewardship of the land and of the creatures in and above it seriously. We have provided a flyway and refuge for thousands of ducks and other waterfowl on the Brassfield Estate lands. These preservation efforts form a connection between our history and the type of sustainable conscientiousness that ensures our future.
