Our Estate Vineyards are unique in their confluence of history, climate, elevation, and soil. We are located high above the shores of Clear Lake, California’s largest natural lake. Lake County has the cleanest air in state and was once one of the state's largest wine producing regions prior to prohibition. Our home ranch on the westside of the High Valley AVA has been known as “High Serenity Ranch” for over one hundred years and is located in one of only two transverse valley AVAs in California. High Valley’s orientation facilitates a massive diurnal temperature swing created by the tension between the pacific ocean’s upper marine layer and the warm sunny days of the mountainous terrain. This effect allows for rich, ripe flavors while retaining acid in the grapes and finished wines. High elevations force our grapes to form thick skins to protect themselves from intense sunlight. The valley and hillsides are comprised of a mix of soils. Franciscan series soils and weathered rock intertwine with recent volcanics spewed by the nearby dormant volcano, Mt. Konocti. The Eastside of High Valley boasts a volcanic cinder cone where roots dig deep, bringing structure and intensity to our grapes. Our Reserve Wines come from the best fruit our diverse Vineyards, planted on our 2900+ acre estate, have to offer.
