The most fruit forward of the Perspectives Syrah vintages with aromas of ripe Bing cherry
and blueberry which carry through to the palate. This is a real winner for the summer, with
fresh and brightness delivering balance to a wine that is built to showcase the ridges above
the winery. Cocoa like, silky tannins invite you to enjoy this opulent gem today. These
sophisticated tones prove even more delicious paired with the tart acidity of the palate
adding depth through to the finish.
Vineyard Notes
At a lofty 3000ft. above sea level Perspective Vineyard sits high above Paradise Valley and
the Oaks. This vineyard offers a commanding view of Clearlake and Mt. Konocti. Our highest
elevation site is not only our most visually stunning, but also our most unique, planted with
six different Syrah clones, and utilizing a Roman trellising system. Perspective is one of the
only vineyards in North America to be planted in this fashion. The terroir is reminiscent of the
Côte-Rôtie region in Rhone Valley, with howling winds that cool the vines on hot days. This
vineyard was planted with remarkably high density, offering an ideal environment for vine
stress, restricting crop yields. This results in concentrated and complex wines.
Winemaker Notes
At Brassfield Estate, our winemaking emphasizes quality and the use of traditional hand-crafted
techniques, creating wines that have power and finesse. This single vineyard Syrah was
harvested by hand in the early morning to maximize quality. We kept our fermentation healthy
with twice daily pump overs and finished with an extended maceration. We allowed our wines
to undergo malolactic fermentation naturally in our caves. To showcase the fruit and structure
of this wine, it was aged for 30 months in 90% new oak. Both French and Hungarian oak
barrels were used to increase complexity. The wine was stirred monthly on its lees to achieve
body and texture. This Perspective Syrah was fined, but bottled without filtration.
