Our 2022 Estate Zinfandel is a jammy, high intensity wine, with powerful flavors of black fruits, black pepper and black tea. All this dark energy is balanced by a surprisingly smooth sip with pleasant and rounded tannins. The finish is slightly sweet and seasoned with pepper.
Vineyard Notes
Perched at 2100 ft. above sea level, on the western slopes of High Valley, lies Monte Sereno vineyard.
This north facing ridge consists of broken shale, characteristic of the Franciscan Formation, with a light dusting of red volcanic soil. The combination of elevation, north facing vines and unique soil composition creates a microclimate that stresses the vines, limiting grape yields. These growing conditions translate into a focused wine with concentrated and intense varietal fruit characteristics.
Winemaker Notes
At Brassfield Estate, our winemaking emphasizes quality and the use of traditional hand-crafted techniques, creating wines that have power and finesse. Our Estate Zinfandel is harvested in the early morning to maximize quality. We kept our fermentations healthy with twice-daily pump overs in stainless steel tanks. We stopped the fermentation to achieve a slightly sweet profile which also enhanced the varietal character and provided additional texture and mouthfeel. This wine was aged with a combination of New American Oak and stainless-steel tanks for nine months to provide structure and character before bottling.
